Second phase of the architectural competition ends


The second phase of the ongoing open international architectural design competition to design the Otaniemi core campus ends on 15 May. The six finalists will submit their proposals to the organisers of the competition on the competition area and its buildings.

The entries selected for the second phase in November 2012 are stay strong sweetie, HIPSTERKASBAH, 492700, VÄRE, AINOA and NOLLI.

The competition jury will conduct its deliberations during the summer, and the results will be published on 27 September 2013.  Entries submitted for the second phase of the competition will be displayed to the general public in June at a time to be published later. The entries will be on display in an open exhibition and on the competition website where visitors may comment on them. The online comments will be submitted to the competition jury as background material for decision making.

The aim of the architectural competition is to create a vibrant and interactive research and learning environment for Aalto University in a central location at the campus.

The 189 entries submitted for the first phase of the competition were on display in an exhibition in October 2012, and visitors had the possibility to comment on them online. Two workshops were organized In November and December after the finalists were published. Nearly one hundred experts from the Aalto community were invited to these workshops, the purpose of which was to get user input and convey their comments to the finalists for further development. The Aalto Sounding Board and Campus Steering Group have also given their comments on the entries selected for the second phase of the competition.
